PDP Crisis: Governors’ Forum Denies Asking Secondus To Quit

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have denied the insinuation that they asked Prince Uche Secondus to quit as the national chairman of the party.

It was widely reported that the PDP governors, under the aegis of the PDP Governors’ Forum, had demanded for the resignation of Secondus, in spite of a Kebbi State High Court order reinstating him.

However, the governors, in a statement by the Director General, PDP Governors’ Forum, Honourable CID Maduabum, categorically denied such an insinuation, declaring it as mischievous.

The governors, in the statement, noted that they, at a meeting held on 26 August, 2021, merely endorsed the resolution the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) which adopted Elder Yemi Akinwonmi (the deputy national chairman, South) as the acting national chairman of the party.

“The PDP Governors’ Forum, at its emergency meeting on Thursday, 26th August, merely endorsed the NWC resolution, adopting Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, the Deputy National Chairman, South, as acting National Chairman of PDP, and the holding of the NEC meeting of PDP on Saturday, 28th August, 2021.

“For the avoidance of doubt, this warped interpretation of the statement of the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Honourable Aminu Waziri Tambuwal CFR, after their emergency meeting on Thursday is clearly mischievous.

“At the time Tambuwal spoke on Thursday night, the Kebbi State High Cout Order had not been received by the Forum, and consequently was not discussed or commented upon,” the statement read.

The PDP governors, according to the statement, further declared that making the clarification became necessary to set the facts straight.
